Tips for the surrounding area

Of course, “Insel-Camp Fehmarn” already offers countless leisure facilities and activities, so you could spend your entire vacation at our campsite. However, we would like to give you some selected recommendations for excursions. And in case your vacations do not suffice to experience everything, we are already looking forward to welcoming you again.

Vacation on our sunny island

The sunny island of Fehmarn is the second largest island of Germany (185 km² and a coastline of 78 km). Fehmarn belongs to Schleswig-Holstein and is located in the south-western Baltic Sea. Thanks to favorable air currents, the island is considered the sunniest and driest region in Germany.

Comfortable Approach

Fehmarn is reachable at any time by a free road bridge, called "Fehmarnsundbrücke", an imposing structure, which is also called "Biggest hanger in the world“. The bridge is also a listed building since 1998 and connects the island to the mainland.

Hiking, cycling, inline skating, horseback riding and golfing

Fehmarn is "flat as a flatfish", which invites long tours by foot, bike with inline skates, or on horseback. On the golf course a few kilometers away we can arrange training sessions, incl. green fee discounts.

Culinary delights

On your trip you are guaranteed to pass a "Farm Cafe". Here you can enjoy homemade cake or a hearty snack with delicious regional specialties. A fresh fish, offered in a variety of preparation methods will certainly suit your taste. Always "... a pinch of sea air in the kitchen smell" for that extra flavor note which Annekatrin Detlef vividly describes in her eponymous cookbook. A veritable treasure trove for all amateur cooks, in which it is at home taste even more like Fehmarn.

Shopping

Red brick buildings and rustic half-timbered houses with countless, well-stocked shops and boutiques make shopping an experience. Of course, there are all major discounters in Burg/Fehmarn.

Nature Water Bird Sanctuary

On Fehmarn two major migratory flyways intersect. In a conservation area, the Wallnau Waterbird Reserve, west of the island that can accommodate up to 250 different bird species best nesting and feeding areas. Through the area a nature trail with observation hide is applied. Here visitors have the opportunity to experience the wild birds up close in their natural habitat. The adjacent visitor center changing exhibitions illustrate the lives of the waterfowl.

A Day at the Museum

... Not enough on Fehmarn. Because there are nearly a dozen exciting exhibitions for young and old, e.g .:

Germany's largest shark tank with other 40 aquariums is waiting to be discovered in the „Meereszentrum Fehmarn“.
The "Experimenta", the crazy lab on Fehmarn, awakens „Einstein“ in you.
In the exhibition "Planet Earth" you can experience a journey from the big bang to dinosaurs to today’s humanity. There is even an earthquake simulator, the possibility to dig for gold and precious stone.
In a real submarine, the "U 11", which is located in the port of Burgstaaken, you can marvel at the ingenious technology, or try out the in the team berths.
In „Peter Wiepert" museum you can find 23 historic rooms which offer an impressive collection around geology, local history, crafts, guilds, seafaring and fishing on Fehmarn. The ideal entry into an impressive time travel.
In the mill museum „Jachen Flünk" you learn lots of interesting facts about the country life and corn-growing on Fehmarn.

With a authentic fisherman out to the ocean

... this is possible for all small and big guests. Various tours by fishing boat are offered. “Fishing trip, bridge tour, sunset cruise, deep sea fishing", are the tour names which you will definitely enjoy.

Do you see the lighthouse on the horizon?

The „Flügger“ lighthouse that sends its signals in the south-west of the island in the darkness, is open to visitors. After having climbed the narrow spiral staircase, you are rewarded with stunning views far beyond the Fehmarnsundbrücke and to Heiligenhafen.

Go-Kart and Silo-Climbing

In the port of „Burgstaaken“, just a couple minutes from the Insel-Camp Fehmarn, you can drive GoCart or climb up the silo. An exciting race on the 400m long track hall awaits you as well as a spectacular ascension in varying degrees of difficulty to Europe's highest safeguarded climbing facility.
