Charging an electric vehicle in 3 steps

Insel-Camp Fehmarn is certified according to ECOCAMPING and the EU Ecolabel. We are happy about every guest who travels environmentally conscious – and we expressly support e-mobility. We want to make charging as easy as possible with our e-plug rental service.

Charging your electric or hybrid vehicle is possible at the island camp – but please only use our rental plug. This is how it works:

01 Visit reception
Come to reception at check-in or during your stay and ask for the e-plug rental.

02 Borrow an e-plug
We will provide you with a special e-plug at reception, which is designed for safe charging at the pitch.

03 Charge at the parking space
Connect your vehicle directly at the parking space – even conveniently overnight – using the rental plug at your parking space. Billing is per kilowatt hour consumed. You pay the same rate as for regular electricity on the pitch.

Important: The direct charging of electric and hybrid vehicles at the regular power connections on the pitch is strictly prohibited. The standard camping sockets are not designed for the continuous load of vehicle charging and can lead to safety risks. Please only use the e-plug rental at the reception.

Frequently asked questions

Can I charge my electric car directly at my parking space?

No. Charging electric and hybrid vehicles at the regular power outlets on the pitches is strictly prohibited. The camping sockets are not designed for the high continuous loads when charging vehicles. Please only use the e-plug rental at reception – this is specially designed for this purpose.

How does the e-plug rental service work?

You can get the e-plug at the reception of the island camp. This is our new offer: you borrow the special plug, connect your vehicle to your own pitch and charge conveniently – without having to go to an external charging station. Reception will be happy to help you set this up.

How much does it cost to charge my electric car?

The charging costs are 1 euro per kilowatt hour – the same rate as for regular camping electricity. The actual consumption of your vehicle is billed.

Why is charging at normal sockets prohibited?

Standard camping sockets are not designed for continuous operation of 16 amps over many hours (as with vehicle charging). This can lead to overheating of the cables, cable damage and, in the worst case, a fire hazard. This strict prohibition therefore applies for the protection of all guests and for the safety of the system. However, the rental plug at reception has been technically tested and approved for this purpose.

Which vehicles can I charge with the e-plug?

The e-plug rental is suitable for electric vehicles (BEV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV). When renting, please ask at reception about compatibility with your specific vehicle type and the type of plug required.

Where is the reception and when is it open?

The reception is located in the main building of the Insel-Camp Fehmarn (Zum Strand 100, 23769 Meeschendorf). For opening hours during the season, please refer to our contact page or ask on site. The 2026 season runs from April 01 to September 27, 2026.

Are there public fast charging stations nearby?

For fast charging (DC charging), we recommend taking a look at common apps such as PlugShare, ABRP or your vehicle manufacturer’s map. On Fehmarn itself, there are several public charging points in Burg auf Fehmarn and other towns. Our e-plug rental service is a convenient addition for overnight charging at the parking space.

Can I also charge as a guest in the spaces in front of the barrier?

The e-plug rental at the reception is primarily aimed at the regular pitch guests of the island camp. Guests on the pitches in front of the barrier do not have access to the campsite and therefore generally do not have access to reception. Please contact us in advance if required.
