Fehmarn, [01.05.2025] – A new highlight attracts visitors to the beach at Meeschendorf on Fehmarn: Insel-Camp Fehmarn has opened an extraordinary sea swing – in the middle of the water! 15 meters from the shore and a proud 4 meters high, it offers a unique experience above the waves of the Baltic Sea.
Operator Katherin Kleingarn got the idea from a trip to Brazil, where she discovered similar swings on tropical beaches: “I wanted to bring this feeling of freedom, lightness and closeness to nature to Fehmarn – and now our guests can experience it for themselves.”
A project with perseverance – and a pioneering spirit
However, it was a long road to implementation: the approval process for such a construction in the coastal area was complex and lengthy, with numerous consultations and official hurdles. But the perseverance was worth it:
Insel-Camp Fehmarn is the first campsite in Germany to offer a permanently installed water swing directly on the beach. Of course, the swing is open to the public and anyone who wants to can use it.
The impressive swing is made of robust oak wood – a material that is not only known for its durability, but also blends harmoniously into the natural surroundings.
A place to dream – and enjoy
Whether as a romantic photo motif, a meditative retreat or for swing enthusiasts who are young at heart – the swing is already a favorite spot for many guests. And if you want to round off the moment with a maritime snack, you can get a freshly filled fish sandwich directly from the neighboring fish hut of the Inselglück restaurant – perfect for a little time out over the sea.

With its high-quality wooden construction, the swing offers a spectacular view of the Baltic Sea. No wonder that the first photos are already circulating on social networks under the hashtag #meeresschaukel (sea swing) or our own hashtag #weloveinselcampfehmarn.
